Beryl Cook Still Making Us Laugh
Seaside resorts in the United Kingdom is some how lacking if it doesn’t have postcards of Beryl cooks art. Beryl Cook had been producing gorgeous funny images of rotund men and women since the 1950’s. And her paintings, prints and postcards have quite rightly worked into the British psyche, striding through the modern spotlight of individual weight and showing the enjoyable side to a real Britain filled with amusing scenes and real characters.
Beryl Cook Prints are really popular, its a long way from when she began. Her son John cook was born in 1950 and some years after Beryl Cook picked up some of his paints and began painting something for herself. Beryl Cook loved painting so much that she just didn’t stop, and from that point on we have had the pleasure of her art. Beryl Cook initially found it very difficult to get her art into galleries, as galleries believed there was little market for her funny artwork, but as her art became available for sale they sold very fast.
Beryl Cook had her first exhibition at London’s Portal Gallery and her art was a huge success with her art totally selling out. I think what was so great about Sheryl Cook’s pieces was the fact that she simply painted scenes that had made her laugh or got her thinking about a particular subject. This made sure that every one of her pieces were created with love and care that only shows when you are creating a thing that you are enjoying doing. The late Beryl Cook produced some fantastic work that lives on in her postcards and prints and is enjoyed by the world over.
