Some Things To Know About Treating Chronic Yeast Infections

by Kerris Samson

There are several different types of yeast infections that one can actually suffer from but they all have different levels of severity. Those people who suffer from chronic yeast infections will discover that their problems will be reoccurring on a regular basis. As well as these infections affecting the skin, they can also affect the throat and mouth, the area surrounding the groin and the gastrointestinal tract. Plus young children who wear diapers on a regular basis are much more prone to suffering from this kind of infection in its chronic form around the area where the diaper is worn.

Experts say that 75% of all women will suffer from some form of yeast infection at some stage in their lives. Plus it is not just limited to women, men can also get yeast infections in their groin area, which is in medical terms is known as male yeast infection. Yeast infections are something that one person can transmit to another through sexual intercourse. Therefore, if you find that you and your partner have chronic yeast infections, then you should seek medical assistance. Also it is important that you abstain from any form of sexual contact until you have both been treated successfully. This will prevent you both from passing it back and forth between each other. Many doctors will often prescribe antifungal pills as well as suggesting you use an over-the-counter antifungal cream also. You may well be instructed by your doctor to use these treatments for a longer period of time than would be considered if yours is considered to be a chronic yeast infection. It is vital that you make sure you keep the area dry, and dry it thoroughly after you have had a bath or shower or after a swim.

If your thrush is reoccurring, and is effecting your mouth and/or the throat, your doctor will prescribe an antifungal oral rinse, lozenges or antifungal pills to treat this type of chronic yeast infections. It is also important that you purchase a new toothbrush whilst this treatment is being undertaken. You then need to purchase another new toothbrush after treatment has been completed, this will prevent you reintroducing yeast back into your mouth once more.

If you have a child who has chronic yeast infection of the mouth or throat, again you should replace their toothbrush as you would yours. It is also important that you sterilize, replace or wash with hot soapy water any toys or other items that your child likes to chew on or which they put in their mouth.

The most common kinds of chronic yeast infections people suffer from are those which affect the skin. The most often occur in areas of the body which are warm and moist, including under the arms, on or under breasts, or in skin folds. If you do suffer from such infections on your skin then it is important that the area which is affected be kept as dry as possible. Also if you can it preferable to wear cotton clothing that is loose fitting.

Unfortunately, if you wear tight fitting clothes or those that are made from synthetic materials you will find that the infection will be exacerbated. These types of clothes do not allow your body to breathe and you find yourself sweating much more than you would normally. The more you sweat the more the yeast infection will grow as you will be providing it with the ideal environment to do so. If you do suffer from chronic yeast infections within the folds of skin on your body using an antifungal powder will be much more effective than a cream. These powders not only contain properties to fight the infection, but also will help to prevent providing the environment in which the yeast likes to grow.

It does not matter what types of chronic yeast infections you are dealing with, there are plenty of medical studies which show that eating yogurt that contains active cultures, are extremely effective at helping to prevent yeast infections. Especially if they are eating on a daily basis. So if you haven’t then why not start including one of the many active culture yogurts available into your diet each day.

Something else which is proving to be beneficial for people who suffer from chronic yeast infections is their intake of probiotics. These are live micro-organisms that are very similar to the active cultures we discussed above found in yogurt. They work by helping to regulate the levels of all micro-organisms in the body and this in turn can help to bring any types of chronic yeast infections under control.

If you do find that you may be suffering from some form of chronic yeast infections then you need to seek medical assistance as soon as you can. By visiting your doctor he will quickly be able to evaluate how severe yours is and then prescribe the right course of treatment for dealing with it and preventing a reoccurrence.
