Displaying the American Flag with the Canadian Flag

In the U.S., many homeowners, especially across the northern tier of states, will display the Canadian flag along with the American flag. You have to wonder, though, how much do they know about the Canadian flag.

Canada hasn’t had it’s national flag for long, in the grand scheme of things. It was first adopted by the Canadian Parliament in 1964, and proclaimed into law by Queen Elizabeth II the following year. Before that date, a number of different flags of the British Empire were used. In fact, until 1945, the only flag used in Canada was the Union Jack.

One thing to be aware of is that, when flying the Canadian flag in the U.S., it should not be set higher than the American flag. It’s OK, however, to place them at equal height.
