The roots of the guitar of today can be traced back a great many generations with many of the ancient instruments showing elements similar to the modern instrument. Even though the Guitar generally possesses six or twelve strings there are other types which can have four, five, seven, eight and ten strings. For many decades this musical instrument has played the leading role in the advancement of popular music and even after the invention of sysnths, and computer based instruments, the guitar is the predominant instrument in the main types of music such as rythm and blues.

With various ways of writing music using computers you will be surprised to learn that for several years now the popularity of the guitar has been markedly increasing with larger numbers of people aquiring and trying to learn how to play the guitar. While many have aspirations of being a rock god the majority just aim to learn how to play well for the enjoyment of it.

The largest number of folk learn to play the guitar by buying a teach yourself guitar book. There is a variety of books which include audio compact discs that make the learning far easier. These books generally show you a selection of simple chords and bar chords as well as power chords together with a small selection of simple tunes.

A more exciting method of learning how to play is by buying a DVD or, better still, an interactive DVD which will teach you various different techniques and styles. As well as tuition DVDs offering basic lessons it is possible to get specialist versions which explain how to play in a similar fashion to a successful guitarist. Often these include a number of tunes by that guitarist so that you can master their skills.

As an alternative to learning from interactive DVDs on a home computer you can also get guitar lessons online. Some tutors offer lessons on a personal basis by way of webcams and downloadable material. Many people are aware of the computer game “Guitar Hero” and it is also possible get a similar thing online but for real guitars. Acoustic or Electric

The acoustic guitar is available in a number of types but all need a sound box behind the strings to amplify the sound of the vibrating strings. Keep in mind if you are starting to learn how to play guitar you really must start at the beginning! Too many people think that they can master a guitar classic instantaneously, however, with a small amount of effort and time you can be on the first steps to becoming the best guitar master.
