If you decide to do it yourself, this is going to add to your already hectic and stressful move. How reliable are your friends? You can usually get a better response from friends if you bribe them, usually with food.
Often people think that if they move everything themselves, they are going to save money. You may end up paying more by doing it yourself instead of hiring a professional. When you have a lot of belongings, you may be better hiring a moving company. If you want to save time, and maybe your sanity, you may want to look up moving companies and find a company within your budget. If you have quite a few fragile items, you may want to hire a moving company to help you move, as most companies carry insurance up to a certain amount. The movers know how to pack your fragile items nice and snug with materials you woulf not be able to get, or are expensive.
If you have access to both places, and a week or two to be able to take small trips back and forth, you may be able to do it yourself. Even if you have a small car, you should be able to take the boxes over to the new house. If you can get a couple friends to help, it will cut down on the number of trips needed, and it won’t wear on your nerves quite as bad. Leave the biggest items for last, and when it’s time to officially be out, rent a truck. Don’t forget, as the deadline gets closer and you still have the furniture left, you can get a truck rental to finish. You won’t need it for as many hours, and quite possibly, you won’t have to rent it for as long a period of time because the bulk of the work has been done.
If you are considering renting a truck, think about these before you make your choice. You may try and save money by renting a smaller truck, but then you may have to make more trips and use more gas and personal energy. Make sure you consider these factors when making your decision. Consider how much stuff you have, if it does not look like it will all fit in one load of the smaller truck, go the next size up. Do you have a friend that has a van or pickup truck?. Before you decide you will not need to use van rental, you will need to see what is able to be moved in the van or truck. If your friend will assist in getting some of the larder items moved, it will save time and trips. Having another vehicle may allow you to go with the smaller truck. With a little planning, your move should go fairly smoothly. With some simple planning, you will be able to reward yourself with a hassle-free relocation.
