The Topsy Turvy Upside Down Tomato Planter has caused quite a buzz in the gardening community with it’s promise to make tomato gardening easy. They claim that by growing your tomato plants upside down that you can get rid of many of the problems associated with growing tomatoes. No more worrying that your tomatoes will get to heavy for your plant, no more bugs, and the ability to easily pick your tomatoes with out having to crawl around the plant and dig through the branches but does it really live up to the hype?

The Topsy Turvy Upside Down Tomato Planter: the pros and cons

Pros– It hangs upside down so the weight of your growing tomatoes will not topple over your plant.

Cons– Even though it is hanging upside down the possibility still exists that the branches will turn into a tangles mess.

Pros- – It hangs off the ground so it frees up a lot of space in your yard.

Cons — The Topsy Turvy Upside Down Tomato Planter gets very heavy with all of the dirt and water so you need to make sure you have somewhere to hang it that has very good support.

Your also going to need to water your tomato plants twice a day because the dirt will dry quicker because it is not in the ground.

Pros– It is very easy to harvest the tomatoes. You will not have to dig through the vines on your hands and knees and you can walk all the way around the tomato plant to gather your tomatoes.

Cons– When the sun hits the planter it can make the dirt very hot and can kill your plants. To avoid this you will need to place aluminum foil around the planter to deflect some of the light.

Pros– Watering the tomato plants in the Topsy Turvy Upside Down Tomato Planter is very easy. Make sure that you are running water through the planter until the water runs clear at least once a week so that you can get the stale water out of the sponges and you don’t get mold on the roots.
