Inportant Information About Technicians Life

I can’t tell you how exciting this is. My first post for my second blog. This I hope will be a successful blog and I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoy telling about my work. My goal is that I want this to give those out in the world who are not technical savvy people a look at what it is like in behind the scenes so to speak.

Let me start this off with telling you a little about myself. I am currently 25 years old. I am married and have a 2 year old and one on the way. I am a computer technician for the schools in the county I live in. I work with 2 other technicians, a audio video technician, and network administrator. We have a supervisor and another lady who pretty much tries to act like she is our supervisor. I love her dearly as a friend, but she can be very annoying at times. I even tell her that so if she read this she would probably laugh.

My morning starts out as usual. I get up and get ready for work and take my daughter to daycare. I head to the office and get ready for the day. Now, for anyone who reads that and has ever worked in IT you know that your job is pretty much straight forward. We have a work order system and we do our work based on these work orders. Well, we used to under our old administration just come in and see what needs to be done and then head out and do it. Now we have the lady who acts like our supervisor come in and tell us where she thinks we need to go. As if she really knows what she is talking about. We have noticed that she sends us to her favorite schools a lot. Like 3 days out of the week we go to the same school. It gets annoying and nothing we say matters of course because she knows better than we do. I also like how they feel that when we go and work on computers or pull internet drops that it shouldn’t take as long as it does. I mean we should be able to fix almost anything in less than 5 minutes right? They just don’t get that it takes a lot longer sometimes for us to fix something because half the problem is figuring out how to fix it in the first place.

I do sometimes get a little annoyed with my job. I really want to just flash forward to retirement and enjoy my life without work. I know I sound lazy, but we all wish we could just live every day with no pressure of a job we have to be at and the kids are grown. If you say you don’t then in my book your telling a lie. I do love my job and it certainly is better than digging ditches. Sometimes though that would almost be better because that isn’t so political. We work for a school system and it is the most cut-throat place to work in of anything I have ever experienced. Everything is so political. It is so sad that we do things around these politics at hand. On whose machine we work on first. Or who gets a new computer or an extra internet drop just because of who they are. Some of our administrators are like babies. They cry until they get what they want.

Today our boss came in and said that a principal at a school was wanting his machine fixed ASAP. Well, I went down to the school and would you know it he wasn’t even there. What do you do really? So, I packed up my stuff and pretty much left. I thought to myself “yeah it was real important huh?”

This is just the start of the many days coming ahead. I hope to develop a writing style that fits this sort of blog. So bare with me. I am learning.
