With the amount of famous people doing their bit for charity, it is a little harder to benefit a good cause when you are an everyday Jo Blogs without a large following of fans. To help you expand some things I thought I would write a few points to help you on the road to setting up a fundraiser of your own.

Firstly what are you trying to do, are you wanting to raise awareness or gather funds. Heightening awareness is normally achieved by educating the people that are your focus group this can be achieved in a number of ways be it leaflets, local radio, TV, a thing that you do that promotes discussion or has the media showing an interest in following the specific event, the internet or organised meetings.

Fund raising on the other hand is appealing to someone to separate with their money to support your chosen subject, once again part of this is educating people about what your fundraiser is but the other bit is providing the people that are giving you money with something in return. Shock, Horror you could first think but people need to go away feeling like they have helped someone or something. If within this you can present an individual with something that is of value to them, or makes them feel good, all the better.

After you know what you are trying to get to consider where you are going to stage the fundraiser. If it is a village hall fundraising project or a Church fundraising event talk to people in the region about using the village or church hall as a base or if it’s about School fundraising talk to the school itself and find out if you can have the use of their village hall to stage your fundraising. On the other hand if you are going to throw yourself out of an airplane or run 20 miles it could be of use to have a base to go out from.

What are you going to do to raise awareness or fund raise. There are a few businesses out there that can help you organise a successful fundraiser. What a few of these companies do is set up an event such as a bungee jump or a Fashion show fundraising where they will show you exactly what you need to do and support you to reach your goal.

With bungee jumps this means you can get out there and get sponsorship from people for your certain stunt and also means that you should be able to bring in others that might like to attempt a bungee jump for more sponsorship. Whereas a fashion show fundraiser you sell by the simple reason that people can see clothes worn by your models and then purchase them at knock down prices. A good evening out and clothes shopping at the same time.

Whatever you do ensure that you get the greatest amount of media coverage as you really can, before the event so that people can see what you are doing and for who so that you can generate as much awareness as possible for your fundraising event.
