Painting your car seems to be the most sought after option if you are eager to give your car a fresh appearance. However, not many of the people do it themselves. Yet, that doesn’t mean that you cannot do it yourself. Painting your car is not as hard as it seems. Before you begin, you must learn the proper way to paint and what measures you must keep in your consideration.

• First put together all the stuff you want. This may comprise of dust masks, goggles, sandpaper, masking tape, wax/grease, primer paint, car wash, paint sprayer and a putty knife.

• Have a look around your surroundings. Remove any objects around you that you feel will catch the paint. It is a wise idea to choose an open environment if you are using spray paints. The place must also be well ventilated so that the aroma of different paints may not bother you.

• The true color of the paint could be hindered by the presence of dust on your car. You must wash your car before painting it and let it dry completely before you begin.

• When your car is dry, rub the rough areas with sandpaper. When you have made the rough areas smooth, you need to discharge the car body. If the car carries some charge on it, the body will attract the oppositely charged dust particles. An ideal way to discharge the car body is to join the chassis frame underneath the car with any grounded object with the help of a conducting wire.

• Cover the areas you do not want to paint with the paper and masking tape. This would include the car interior. Cover the windows and all other areas appropriately with the help of the paper so that not even a small amount of the paint gets in.

• You must use a high quality putty to even out the patches on the car.

• Once you smear the primer, you will have to inspect the car with a serious eye. You will have to be very careful while you do this. Applying the primer evenly will give you an even paint all over your car. You must

smear light coats of primer at first and give intervals of some minutes to let it dry. Then you will look at the real color.

• Now you will have to rub the car body with the help a sandpaper to make the primer even all across the car.

• Now you will have to paint the car. Use urethane based paints for this purpose. Use a spray gun to paint the first coat and let it dry for at least fifteen minutes before you put on the successive coats.

• Paint the last coat and give it sufficient time to dry; at least ninety minutes.

• In total, you must at least put three coats on the car body. Give sufficient time in between the coats to let the former one dry out before you continue with the second one.
