Sandwich Generation Looking After Both Parties

The task of taking care of aged parents can be really tough. This is one of the most toughest issues that many people are facing nowadays. Your father is old, mother remains mostly ill, and you live a little away from them. With all this, you even have to manage your kids. Situations like these are growing common as parents have to manage both sides. In earlier times, attenders fulfilled this task and infact, there were similar Baltimore caregiver jobs or Baltimore cna jobs out there. But now, people facing this situation and who are managing both sides is called the “Sandwich generation.”

Gone are those days when more then one families used to coexist in the same town or just one house. Things are different now. Members of a single family are scattered across the country, with long-distance calls and emails being the only few sources to hook them together. Old parents are less likely to seek assistance in the current era, with the thoughts of becoming a burden to their children. They feel that their kids are working hard and need to do something themselves to not become a burden. To avoid this, sandwich generation attenders can take care of a few points to keep in touch and maintain a continuous network:

• Hold a meeting each week to keep track of all the main tasks to be performed before the next meeting. You can set a couple of mutual expectations and note all the ways that can be used to achieve the target. If you own a family assistance, care-giving does not belong to a single person. Having a family gathering will also provide more space to every member to take part and share their thoughts.

• Assign work to every family member. You can hand over some work to your kids for e.g. routine checkups or clearing the garden, and perform others yourself. This not just reduces your burden, but even helps maintain communication. It will even reduce the generation gap and will push all the family members to have a chat.

• Provide your parents with leisure facilities including newspapers and magazines to alert them with upcoming happenings. If they have an interest in a specific area, make sure that you order their interest-related magazines. Buy them tickets for concerts and cultural shows. Give them movies occasionally, with a type that interests them. Take them to churches and shopping malls where they feel entertained and relaxed.

• Whenever you visit your parents place, have a complete look and check if anything has to be repaired or fixed. Make a note of every things so that you fix it yourself or manage a means to mend it by calling for a professional help.
