Either way, they cover almost all of the area and will work without human input at all.

Of course, chemicals can also be used to keep water clean but these days, people are looking for alternatives to harsh chemicals which sometimes have adverse side effects. Salt chlorinators are now becoming popular and people are turning towards natural cleaners to help the environment and save on costs too.
