Awards go to the Best Green Inventors in Toronto
Green Innovators Awards event knows its three prizewinners. April 23rd had the announcement by Mayor David Miller, Deputy Mayor Joe Pantalone and CityNews Meteorologist Michael Kuss of the top green innovators, at the Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place. The prize of $50,000 was shared out between the award winners and they each were handed the coveted Green Toronto Award.
Supporting the environment is the main focus of these young innovators, not the prize money. All the finalists offered exciting green resolutions and improvements. The ideas were not about fanciful improvements that would never see light outside of a workshop, but real solutions that you may someday see in common use.
Below are the top three winners:
* Olivier Trescases, PhD and Chris Lea, with Green Gym: A gymnasium that takes energy from the equipment as it is used and dispatches it to the grid.
* Sarah Lazarovic and her submission GreenHouseTO; For those Toronto people that are interested in Toronto buildings comes a handy web and mobile renovation application.
* Robert Kori Golding, for his submission My Green City: A Facebook and iPhone cross-platform game/application. Planting a tree, cutting down waste or any other environmental improvements you make will be exchanged for points when playing this application
Greener comes first!
In addition to the Green Innovation Awards there were 9 Green Toronto Awards given out: for Community Projects Award, Energy Conservation Award, Environmental Awareness Award and another six. Charities also benefited, as all finalists received a prize of $5,000 each to share with their favourite.
