If you visit Glenrowan, you will probably receive the biggest dose of local history and heritage that could most likely be amassed in one location, about one person. Australia’s most renowned bushranger Ned Kelly, is pretty much enshrined as a underdog folks hero of mammoth proportions. Glenrowan was the location of the final result of one of the greatest manhunts in Australian history and the shoot out and siege that happened, was a murderous event by any standards. The slaying of the Kelly Gang and the capture of Ned Kelly, is perhaps one of the most infamous events in Australian history, as is the continual barrage of fire that ensued until the gang was dead.

The just about never-ending souvenirs and ‘Kellyana ‘ will take some time to see, however it is all interesting and raises some questions as to if/the way the level of police victimization of the Kelly family, led to the entire bloody fiasco. Glenrowan is also home to some consequential vineyards, which can at times be overlooked in the push to sponge up the Ned Kelly heritage. Baileys of Glenrowan actually had a vineyard planted well before the Kelly Gang even existed, so drop in and have a look, or a little taste of what's on offer. There are many cellar doors waiting to be visited in the wine region, and a highlight of the wine scene is the Winemaker’s Weekend in October.

Glenrowan is literally guarded by a six metre high statue of Ned Kelly, so you will know you are in the right place, but consider visiting some of the local orchards as well for some fresh stone fruits if you're visiting in the Spring. You may be assured of a brilliant day out, so enjoy!
