Opening a new business has been an exciting challenge. Our main goal was to operate a small specialty silkscreen printing shop. One of the first challenges that we had to overcome was the ability to collaborate on different designs easily from multiple locations within our building. The change of pace we experienced was great considering the years we had spent giving things up just to make enough money to keep the shop open and afford our daily lives. For what seemed like forever, we were only printing shirts for local companies and charity events. Assisting our clients was terrific of course, but it wasn’t exactly cutting edge printing that we were doing.

Now with the ability to network like we have, we have been progressively moving our company toward a new future. We are to the point now when we can’t even take any more custom orders because of the high volume of requests we have for our very own signature pieces. Achieving any goal and doing anything is entirely possible with the right tools as well as a lot of hard work. When the long hours only appear to be getting longer and nothing is paying off the way you expect, it’s easy to get discouraged. That’s sort of expected in the world of independent business.

There are lots of perks though that comes with being your own company. For starters you get to make all the decisions on how things grow and develop. When things don’t seem to be heading the way you wish, you can just change it because that’s part of your freedom as the business owner. I have been very lucky to work with a great team that has been able to help provide constructive criticism all along the way. Networking as a team and working together has made all of my company’s growth possible.
