Sat Navs & Vans that can get through Solar Winds
In light of the recent developments that Earth is to be hit by the strongest geomagnetic storm for more than 6 years which has the potential power to disrupt satellite communications across the globe, it has brought up the questionwhere are the best Sat Navs at the moment and what price are they sold at?
Geomagnetic storms also emit radiation which means signals cannot pass through and hence why they disrupt anything that uses satellite signals like GPS systems, aeroplanes etc, the problems for authorities is the fact the storm is heading towards Northern Europe and the UK.
It also emits a high about of magnetic interference which scrambles satellite signals, which is a major problem when the storm is coming lower than the polar regions because of the amount of aircraft that fly through that space; 35,000 per day
Geomagnetic storms are one of the most amazing sights on earth with the display of the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) with displays of swirling green lights spreading across the night sky
Now onto the gadgets and technology side of things. Heres a little background to Sat Navs: they are easy to use, touchscreen and get you from A to B easily. Here is a list of Sat Navs with their advantages and disadvantages.
The NavFree GPS App for iPhone – £0
The App Store has many apps and many route finding apps but one that has been downloaded the most times and has been given an average rating a 4+ by users is the NavFree. NavFree uses OpenStreetMap to incorporate features like turn by turn navigation which is handy in a situation where you might deviate from the route given to you by the Sat Nav. The app doesnt seem to work too well in rural areas because of signal and map problems.
The Google Maps App for Android available for Free
Google Maps is the best Sat Nav app on the Android Market and is fantastic as it comes with the Android phone as standard. One feature the app has is that it allows the user to pick whether they want to get to the destination by foot, car or bike and then works out when they will get there and does different routes for each. Google Maps also has another cool feature with the fact that it allows you to instantly upload to social media websites where you are, this could be seen as pointless but yes a rather cool thing to do.
The Binatone F350 available for £59.99
This is a cool little Sat Nav with its tiny 3.5 inch touchscreen which can fit in your pocket so it is as good as a mobile. Another feature it employs is the display options: 3D and 2D; it also has Points Of Interest so that users can get to them easily.
Mio Navman V575 – £149.99
This Sat Nav allows you to watch Freeview TV on it, but only when you are parked up which is safe but whether it is useful is another question. It also take into account traffic when choosing a route for the user, but this only occurs at peak times.
TomTom Live 120 Europe for £199.99
The TomTom has a fantastic feature on it called EcoRoute, it finds the most fuel efficient routes for the driver based on information supplied by other TomTom users. The TomTom also has a full map of Europe so it is good for lorry/van drivers on long haul drives.
These Sat Navs all have good and bad point but to be honest, all of them are as good as each other; back to the original point all Sat Navs need is to get you from A to B so if it goes that then its a good Sat Nav.
Sat Nav problem sorted, now all you need is a vehicle to use the Sat Nav. Participate in van lease to get the van you want. One name that screams out when you mention vans is the Ford Transit because of the tradition, the name and the reputation it has, so why not Ford Transit leasing
So make sure you look around for the best deals on Sat Navs and Vans and enjoy your new vehicle and gadgets and be careful of the geomagnetic storms!
